On 7 August  2025, China’s State Council announced amendments to the Administrative Regulations on the Entry and Exit of Foreign Nationals, effective 1 October 2025. The revision introduces a K-Visa specifically for young foreign professionals in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
In a recent Q&A session, officials from the Ministry of Justice, Foreign Ministry, Public Security Bureau, and National Immigration Administration clarified that the K-Visa targets graduates (bachelor’s degree or higher) from renowned global universities/ research institutions in STEM fields, or those engaged in STEM education/ research at such institutions. Detailed eligibility criteria will be published on Chinese embassy/ consulate websites.
Compared to China’s existing 12 visa categories, the K-Visa offers enhanced benefits:
  • Multiple entries, extended validity/duration of stay
  • Flexible activities (education, tech, cultural exchanges, entrepreneurship, business)
  • No requirement for a Chinese employer/ inviting entity
  • Streamlined application process
This initiative aims to foster international scientific collaboration and advance China’s talent development strategy.
